While there are a huge variety of sport fish on offer, New Caledonia is renowned for it’s monster GT’s. It’s difficult to encounter GTs under 20kg with most in the 20-40kg range, with anglers regularly landing 50+kg fish!
Explosive GT Action
New Caledonian GTs tend to be bigger on average than those found elsewhere, providing explosive year-round GT action! Other light tackle targets include queenfish, bluefin trevally, long nose emperor, rosy jobfish, small tuna’s and a host of other species. On the jigs there are amberjack, grouper, red bass, coral trout, green jobfish and rusty jobfish, just to name a few. New Caledonia’s barrier reef is vast, offering anglers a range of exciting trip options throughout the islands and coastline.
Pelagic Paradise
Being part of the oceanic highway that joins Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and the South Pacific Islands, the waters of New Caledonia attract some truly massive pelagic species. Beyond the expansive lagoon, there are underwater seamounts, plateaus and offshore reefs that hold a huge variety of blue water game fishing desirables, including spanish mackerel, wahoo, dogtooth and yellowfin tuna, sailfish and marlin. For anglers who wish to mix their GT fishing with some pelagic action there are both lodge based adventures available or for the more adventurous, fish the most remote locations on our extended live on board expeditions.
