Hi David,
We had a great trip with all of the arrangements going like clockwork. Mark Armistead is a great skipper who really knows his location and is at pains to preserve the fishery for the long term.
We caught more than 30 kingies over the two days – at a time of year that Mark indicated was slow fishing. Both of us now have new PB’s with Tony getting a 34 pounder and myself a 50 pounder. Each fish was weighed by Mark before a quick release. All but two of the fish were caught on jigs with the surface activity very quiet. I did manage to get two smallish fish on a home-made pencil popper!
Tony had considerable success with pan sized snapper on soft plastics and also caught three on his fly rod – a first for Mark’s boat.
We have seen enough to wet our appetite and plan to return when the surface action is hottest, In the meantime we can only dream of bettering the 50+ pound mark and catching one of these giants on a surface stick bait.
Thanks again for making our trip possible.
Regards,
Keith & Tony
