NZ 3 Kings Islands Topwater Report
February 2nd, 2011 | By Ocean Blue

Most of us will be familiar with the trip reports from jigging and live bait anglers having fished the Three Kings islands using traditional techniques.
It’s exciting to picture what can be achieved here now with the evolution towards topwater stickbait techniques for these cool water torpedo’s.

Last year Ocean Blue’s NZ skipper & topwater aficionado, Mark Armistead, ventured out to the Three Kings and took with him an arsenal of specialised casting gear. Like most trips to this area the trip focused its attention on the King and Middlesex bank and they caught a lot of good fish, mostly from vertical jigging. Any time the vessel pulled up near the islands Mark and another angler pulled out the top water gear and in only a few hours in the area they pulled out two 30 KG Kingfish and quite a few in the high twenties. They also teased in a group of fish which the jiggers on board took advantage of and one angler landed himself the worlds biggest ever jig caught kingfish at 46KG.
